KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY
Two years ago, I went through the required medical clearances, scheduled a tentative surgery date, and ended up backing out on a total right knee replacement.
Now, the pain levels hampers my ability to function on a day-to-day basis; and, I see the quality of my life diminishing.
If I am really serious about living life to the fullest, I have to get this knee replacement. I refuse to chicken out a second time. As a daily reminder, I posted a reminder on my bulletin board:
My Post-Surgery Distraction
In this season of life (74-years-young), I want to live, thrive and enjoy every moment including the post-surgical moments. So, during the surgery recovery and rehabilitation period, I plan to:
- finish painting a pecan resin African American Santa that has been on hold for more than two years: and
- start and complete painting a pecan resin African-American Santa that I purchased more 20+ years ago.
Hopefully painting these two figurines will be a distraction from both the pain and stress of surgery. It did just that, when I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 20+ years ago.
In this season of life, I want to live, thrive and enjoy every moment including my post-surgical rehabilitation moments.
PAINTING PECAN RESIN FIGURINES
In 1993, shortly after being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, the eldest daughter gave me my first pecan resin figurine and a set of acrylic paints. She felt a hobby would distract me from the pain.
I have no idea about the number of figurines painted and gifted to friends and family, but the few below are the only ones now in my possession.

You are a woman of many talents ms Yvonne. Have to research pecan resin figures because I love yours! Especially the pink and green – I could make mine red and white. Wishing you speedy recovery from the surgery! I have not been able to figure out what to do first: back, knees or hips. Shoulders are surgery candidates but last on the list.

Sorry for the delay in responding to your comment. When I went to search for pecan resin figurines about a year ago, I went to the flea market manager in Raleigh, North Carolina where I had purchased them more than 23 years ago. He said the market pretty much dried up because of new government regulations. They no longer have vendors selling them at their market and couldn’t refer me to other sources. I did find a couple of sites through Google. Though, I wasn’t impressed with what they had to offer, it may be the only option. Luckily, I still have a couple of large unpainted Santas.
I have received both negative and positive feedback from people who have had a knee replacement. In the end, I made the decision solely based on the fact that I was no longer willing to endure this level of pain.
Will keep you posted on my surgery. I know you will make the CHOICE as to what surgery will be most beneficial for you. Prayers.

Your work is beautiful.
I don’t know about knee replacement but I had a hip replacement 6 1/2 years ago. The pain was gone immediately! I had to concentrate on rehab and healing. I hope it’s the same with your knee! I hope you don’t put it off again! Good luck!
