“You discover a letter on a path that affects you deeply. Today, write about this encounter. And your twist? Be as succinct as possible.”
I am a walker.
I follow the same path day in and day out.
I look straight ahead.
I do not look up, down, left or right
I stumbled while walking today.
I looked down and there was a large, tattered brown envelope.
I picked up the envelope.
I opened the envelope.
I was surprised — inside was a lottery ticket with a note attached.
I read the note.
- “This winning lottery ticket valued at $300,000,000.00 given to you in appreciation for your family’s acts of kindness to so many people.” Anonymous.
I checked the address on the envelope.
I knew the family.
- What should I do?
I wondered what someone else would do.
- What would you do?

I would take it to the family, but I think it’s a fake 🙂
You are honest, cautious and cynical at the same time, my friend.
GIVE IT UP!!!

Would you really? (smile)
I would be terrified of eternal punishment if I didn’t do the right thing. Excellent post, that is a great read. I’m behind still, three days, buy I’m plowing ahead.
Thankfully, we don’t have weekend assignments.
I’m so glad you reminded me of this. I wanted to write for a prompt given by Traces of the Soul http://tracesofthesoul.wordpress.com/2014/06/05/is-the-age-of-chivalry-still-here-traces-prompt-5/ and didn’t see how I was going to do it and the writing 101 assignment. So tomorrow I can work on that one!
If you end up missing writing tomorrow, consider this prompt. I think it is a good one for you! 🙂
I liked your story a lot.
I would give it back to them because that is what is right.
Part of me would be attempting to return it without any expectation, but another part would be hoping they would give me a financial reward!
I would do exactly what I know you would do – take it to where is belongs. but I have to agree also with karuna – might be a teensy wish for a “reward”? sometimes family members buy lottery tickets for a little surprise to tuck into a b’day or other type of greeting card. not me. if they won, (and I hate to admit this) I would be really upset. hmmmm, wonder what that says about me – I don’t go there as I might mean something I don’t even want to know!
loved this post!
