Amma Therapy Cancer TreatmentBy Diana Ross, Co-Founder of Breast Cancer Yoga.

I love my Amma cancer treatments. I have had the great fortune to have incredible healing practitioners coming into my life and working on and with me. Elizabeth Valenzuela is just one of these special people. Her wholistic and spiritual approach to healthy living is an adventure for me into understanding myself and reaching my true destiny of love and purpose. I know it sounds corny but I am learning so much and I so believe that Elizabeth was placed on my path of wellness to expand my consciousness and gain a greater awareness of purpose. Elizabeth and her Amma Therapy make this possible. Besides being a spiritual and sensitive person, her passion lies with helping animals that suffer and cannot speak. She has such a loving connection to all creatures.

So What is Amma Therapy?

Amma Therapy is an ancient…

Lentil and Tomato Soup For Breast CancerBy Diana Ross, E-RYT 500, Co-Founder of Breast Cancer Yoga.

I chose this soup because my Amma Therapist, Elizabeth suggested moist nurturing lentils and healthy tomatoes. I have grown to dislike the Hippocrates Soup so I needed another amazing soup for my wellness program, and it is my favorite soup. I actually made extra because I knew my family would gobble it up too. And I was right.

Just a reminder – ingredient would be better if they were organic.

Ingredients:
3 large carrots diced
2 large onions diced
2 large garlic wedges
1 large sweet potato cubed
4 stalks of sliced celery
1/2 cup fresh parsley chopped
1 1/2 cups of dried red lentils (wash and clean)
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 26 oz. can of organic peeled tomatoes (with juice) or fresh plum tomatoes
7 cups of veggie broth
6 oz. dry white wine
1/2 tsp. pink…

Combating Chemobrain: Keeping Your Memory Sharp

Helpful tips, I can use.

Wellness!'s avatarunderstandcancerin60minutes

I recently ran across this helpful article in Chemotherapy Advisor, and want to share it with you.

Background: Many people going through cancer treatment notice changes in their memory and thinking abilities. Coping with symptoms of chemobrain involves finding ways to help you remember things better, and doing activities that keep your memory sharp.

Here are some tips for combating chemobrain:

  • Make lists. Carry a pad with you and write down the things you need to do. For example, keep lists of things to buy, errands to run, phone calls to return, and even the times you need to take your medicines. Cross items off as you finish them.
  • Use a portable planner or personal organizer. These can help you stay on top of day-to-day tasks and keep track of appointments and special days like birthdays and anniversaries. Paper and electronic versions are available.
  • Get a wall calendar. For…

Gratitude Sunday, August 3: Mother and Daughters

“Mothers and Daughters are Closest, when Daughters Become Mothers”

I am grateful this Sunday to begin the week in the presence of my two daughters as we begin our Fifth Annual Mother-Daughter Vacation in Martha’s Vineyard.

Especially, grateful for the gift of these precious moments with my daughters to:

  • Reminisce about our past;
  • Discuss our moments in the present; and
  • Share our dreams for the future.

The Beginning of a New Passion

Karuna Poole's avatarLiving, Learning and Letting Go

100_0986During the last week of June 2011, I had a series of eye-opening experiences. As the week came to a close, I realized I also had a new direction in my life, the beginning of a new service project. How this project came about seemed almost mystical to me.

Some background first.  Amma* has asked us for years to chant the Sri Lalitha Sahasranama** (also called archana) daily.  While I have not been consistent in my chanting, I have had numerous powerful experiences when I have followed her direction to chant it daily. This was one of those times.

My normal practice is to read/chant the text while walking. I generally take one of four routes so that I know the terrain and can be focusing on the chant rather than my feet!  This is what unfolded during those seven days in June 2011:

Day 1

I chanted the archana…
